The blockchain city

The imagination of how future technology Blockchain can change our city.

Industry 4.0 with the Ideal of Digital Distribution. The development of 3D printers and small-scale robots allows each household and people to have a chance to produce by themselves. It is believed it can easily meet the demands and resilience in production. 

We imagine that the city after industrialization 4.0 will change from today's centralized system which is controlled by the state`s plan or the decentralized system which is a small scale community plan to the distributed city. 

The system of urban development is being transformed from “top-down’ to ”bottom-up” which is led by people and because of this people will have more freedom of the work. The elements such as robot arm, small lab, data center, mobile market, and cloud office are what we think factors that make distributed city happened.  The blockchain is the concept of a safe digital transaction system which is what we imagine will have a significant impact on our future industries. Because of this system, people will have more freedom to interact with each other globally and create more and more personal trade.

Generic Copenhagen

This isometry is our take on the generic Copenhagen city, which is constructed as a collage from many familiar buildings around the city. We try to imagine what will change by the distributed system and blockchain system in the Copenhagen context. For example, we may not need that many office spaces in the city center and space will be replaced by a labor small maker space. 

Besides, the drone delivery system will work around the city. The courtyard of today`s residential area will become a maker space to allow people to create something new.   The station will be combined with the mobile market such as Netto to go, and the street will have a lot of mobile personal vendor to sell the products they made.  

Will the future city itself be a series of Production Blockchain? How will that change our city in Utopia & Dystopia way?


A positive effect of the blockchain concept is the fact that one gets rid of the middle man during money transactions. It encourages simple sales and could be the infrastructure for the future sharing economy. The blockchain is decentralized (peer-to-peer), distributed and open-source…the blueprint for maker spaces. It can become a tool to communicate and balance the production and consumption in a local context. People can share their data and understand the market easily. In this way, we could see a renaissance of small-scale production, exploring and interaction. We imagine the rooftops have turned into semi-public spaces and workshops. The streets are lively and physical interaction is a common sight. Public areas offer room for small-scale manufacturing and meeting-points for local trading. 


The majority have realized that it is no longer necessary to do anything else than staying home and mine for bitcoin to earn money. All the available space is seized for private energy production to keep the mining operations running. The solar panels and wind turbines are directly linked to the computer through the windows. It is no longer necessary to leave one’s home, and the streets are entirely neglected and gone back to nature as a result. Public space is seen as a potential where there could be room for energy production or data centers. It’s a monotone world, where there is hardly any activity on the streets, and life is lived solely from the inside of one's apartment, with very little space for anything but the bitcoin mining facilities.
